“Our intention creates our reality.” – Wayne Dyer

“I’m a big fan of intention. That’s because I have learned first-hand the power of setting my intention on my goal and making all decisions based off of that intention.” – Lewis Howes

“A gift consists not in what is done or given, but in the intention of the giver or doer.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca

“Intention is one of the most powerful forces there is. What you mean when you do a thing will always determine the outcome. The law creates the world.” – Brenna Yovanoff

“Find out who you are. And do it on purpose.”-  Dolly Parton

“If there were no night, we would not appreciate the day, nor could we see the stars and the vastness of the heavens. We must partake of the bitter with the sweet. There is a divine purpose in the adversities we encounter every day. They prepare, they purge, they purify, and thus they bless.”-  James E. Faust

Abstract

Intent is another word for purpose. Purposeful living is one of the great personal milestones we should all try to achieve. Those who live with intent and go about all their activities with the right intentions rarely have anything to worry about. Carry out your duties and activities with the right purpose.

Human kind’s greatest achievements and works have all come through the power of right intention and purpose. This applied consistently has left us with priceless works and artifacts that would never have been created without the power of intent.

Purpose is related to your strategic and tactical goals. Your whole day should be dedicated to living with the right purpose and intent. This is why goal setting is very important it helps us utilize those idle moments wisely.

Purpose

What’s your purpose on the planet? This is a key question we should always ask ourselves. What are my key goals and my sub goals?

Knowing your key goals guides you on what you should be doing at any moment in life. Write down your key goals and read them each day. This will guide you and focus your mind on the right tasks you should be focused on at any moment of the day

Study any significant progress made on the planet it’s always achieved by those who harness the power of intentional effort and purpose.

Power of Intent and Purpose

The Taj Mahal

Great Vision

This is one of the seven wonders of the modern world. This magnificent building was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was completed in the year 1643.

This was a testament of love and cost 32 million rupees almost the equivalent of modern day 1 billion dollars to complete. That’s the power of intent, this time it was to demonstrate love. It left a modern-day legacy for the world to behold.

Ants

The tiny creatures called ants should guide us on purposeful and intentional living. Ants are one of the most dominant species in the planet. They are found in every continent apart from the extreme arctic and Antarctic regions.

They live in a very structured society. Each ant plays a role in the colony. The queen ant’s sole purpose is to breed and propagate more members for the colony. The infertile males and females are the worker ants. They carry out general duties which are mainly searching and gathering food for the colony and tending the young.

The soldier ant’s main duty is to guard the colony from attackers and ensure the safety of the colony. There are chosen fertile males that are chosen to mate with the queen. Each ant knows it’s duty implicitly and does not sway from performing it’s duties.

They carry out their duty devotedly each and every day without complaint. They are consistent and purposeful. It’s an experience finding a ant colony on the move. They sweep each and every obstacle on their path. They are a devastating army.

One of the worst experiences you may experience as an individual is to get attacked by ants. I had a very nasty experience only 6 to 7 years back. I had visited a resort next to a forest that was teeming with ants. They somehow managed to climb up my trousers needless to say I had to dash to the wash rooms to get rid of the ants.

That’s the tenacity and purpose of ants. When they get hold of you they will not let go.

Parents and their offspring

If you really also want to study what purpose and intent mean please study what devoted parents of any species will do to protect and take care of their offspring. I like watching National Geographic Wild. You get to study the behavior of different animal species.

Most animal species have one thing in common they are fiercely protective of their young. I remember watching weaver birds fending off a snake that was going to kill and eat their hatchlings. Normally any weaver bird would run off when in a direct face off with a snake.

This time the birds attacked the snake repeatedly till it fell off the tree. The snake got the message and never returned back to the tree. Intent and purpose to protect their young drove off fear from the usually timid birds. That’s the power of intention.

Female lions and female leopards have faced off larger males when they posed a threat to their cubs. Unless they are vying to take over territory male lions and leopards will avoid taking on a female with cubs in a direct fight. They instinctively understand the female will be ready to fight to the last inch of her life to protect her cubs.

That’s the power of purpose and intent in nature.

Successful Individuals

The most successful people in life are very intentional about their goals and purpose in life. They usually live for goals that are aspirational in nature and impact many people. They are not interested in limited ventures and ambition.

They aim for the sky most of the time. Study the biographies of individuals like Rockefeller, Henry Ford, Sam Walton, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Oprah Winfrey etc. They are and were very intentional and purposeful in how they spend their time and what they spend it on.

They have very structured lifestyles that are dedicated to pursuing big goals and ambitions. Every waking moment is not wasted on minutiae detail. Steve Jobs was the epitome of efficiency. He adopted his famous dress code so that he could not waste time on choosing attire each and every morning.

They value their time and do not waste it on trivia. They realize a life without purpose and intent is a wasted life.

Everyday Living

The first question asked by any project manager worth their role or title is ‘What is the Purpose of this Project?’ What are the objectives and key outcomes we are looking for?

Apply the same tenet to your everyday living what is the purpose and objective of my life? What are my key intentions in life?  Do you have big goals? Do you have big dreams?

Live a life full of intention. The greatest artistic works, greatest inventions, great classical music compositions would not have been produced without the right intent and purpose.

Action:

  1. What are your 3 greatest goals/priorities list them.
  2. Ensure you read your key goals each and every day
  3. Work on these goals each and every day
