The Simple Ant
As the year draws to a close we need to emulate that simple ant. When we are stuck and find ourselves in a rut, we need to look around and nature will provide the answer to our problems. The ant is the best example of diligence and persistence.
The ant goes about it’s duties day after day. It is relentless in its duty and obligation to gather food and sustain the colony. It is always on the move under all weather conditions and ensures the colony will thrive.
This simple creature is quoted in the Bible to provide an example to lazy individuals about the virtue of diligence. Proverbs 6:6 – Go to the ant thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.
The unsung heroes
There are many unsung heroes in life. The ants of the colony. The garbage collectors, waiters, waitresses, plumbers, mechanics, teachers, farmers, police, soldiers, priests, drivers, nurses, doctors, factory workers, front line staff etc.
They show up each and every day to deliver the services and products we take for granted each and every day. When that garbage goes uncollected we then realize the value of these heroes in society.
When that voice goes silent on radio we realize the entertainment we will miss. When that school shuts down we realize the value the teachers provide to our children.
When that doctor fails to show up we realize their value to society. These are the heroes that drive society. They are the worker ants that keep society ticking and thriving.
What value are we creating?
We all need to take a step back and ask ourselves what value do we create each and every day. Do we show up and leave the world better each day or are we a drain on others?
Do we create harmony and peace by our presence or leave misery and destruction whenever we appear?
These are the questions we need to ponder on as the year draws to a close. We need to take inventory of our talents and ask what unique gift can I give the planet each and every day. It’s this purpose and legacy that will define us in the long run.
Summary- Don’t Quit
Show up and never quit. If we know the value we create, that will benefit society immensely, we should stay tenacious and deliver it. In life we regret when we quit.
When we throw in the towel and quit, we don’t live to our potential and purpose. We need to have the ability to grit our teeth and persist.
Show up and give your best each and every day. You will never regret giving your best each and every day.
