Abstract

We always dream of achieving certain goals in life but there are individuals who will have more desire, apply more energy to reach their objectives and goals

Then the rest wonder how come these individuals attained and reached their targets earlier than they did. It all boils down to desire and the will to take action do what it takes to attain your goals and dreams

The Avocado Tree

There is this avocado tree very visible from my bed room window. It’s located at an undeveloped parcel of land that belongs to one of my neighbors. I thought about life and this Avocado Tree.

Recently it had it’s first fruiting season and this attracted other neighbors to come over and harvest Avocado fruits from it. This was a free for all bonanza as the land is not fenced off.  Avocado prices are currently at 1 USD per Avocado, the highest prices I have ever experienced in my country Uganda.

The neighbors were all delighted to get a chance to harvest the fruits. This brought out four categories of neighbors. They were the early birds that would come over to harvest the low hanging fruit, the second category got the longest sticks they could get to hit avocado trees out of their reach.

The third category were those who climbed the tree and harvested their choice fruits. The fourth and last category were the onlookers who did nothing but watched the rest actively harvesting the avocado fruits

Application in Real Life: Goals and Opportunities

Category 1 The Early Birds
There are those who will sniff an opportunity and take advantage of this opportunity as soon as possible. They will aim to reap the low hanging fruit as soon as possible. Once they have exploited the low hanging fruit they move onto the next opportunity

Category 2 The calculated risk takers
There are those who want to study the environment first before they take a leap. They first ensure that it’s possible to exploit an opportunity before they also act on the opportunity.

These are the category that might expend just a little bit more energy to exploit the opportunity. The low hanging fruit is gone and they have to work harder to exploit the opportunities available. These are the neighbors using sticks and other implements to hit the fruits.

Category 3 The Late Comers
This category has to expend the most energy to harvest fruits. They had to climb up the tree to harvest the fruits in the highest branches. The opportunity still existed but the energy expended to get the fruits was high and the quantity of fruits was less.

Category 4 The onlookers
Then we have the last category the onlookers. These are the neighbors who watched the rest expend energy to harvest the fruits but did nothing. They missed out on the bonanza

Summary

This is practically how life functions. There are many opportunities that come our way each and every day. We also have goals and dreams. We then have the action takers and onlookers. The ones who gain most in life are those who take action and go for their dreams.

Have the desire to shake that tree called life. There might be some juicy fruits that will fall your way. You can’t achieve anything in life as a mere onlooker. Apply yourself and focus and watch what happens down the road.
