Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness. – Napoleon Hill

For anything worth having one must pay the price; and the price is always work, patience, love, self-sacrifice – no paper currency, no promises to pay, but the gold of real service.-  John Burroughs

Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. – Martin Luther King, Jr.

In life, there’s the beginning and the end. The beginning don’t matter. The end don’t matter. All that matters is what you do in between – whether you’re prepared to do what it takes to make change. There has to be physical and material sacrifice. When all the dust settles and we’re getting ready to play down for the ninth inning, the greatest reward is to know that you did your job when you were here on the planet. – John Carlos

If we’re ignorant of the historical sacrifices that made our liberties possible, we will be less likely to make the sacrifices again so that those liberties are preserved for future generations. And, if we’re ignorant, we won’t even know when government infringes on our liberties. Moreover, we’ll happily cast our votes for those who’d destroy our liberties. – Walter E. Williams

You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you. – John Wooden

“If you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery–isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you’re going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It’s the only good fight there is.” ― Charles Bukowski, What Matters Most is How Well You Walk Through the Fire

Supermarket Open in Early Morning

On my daily commute I noticed a supermarket open by 5.40 am. This is a heavily trafficked route where thousands of vehicles pass daily. This supermarket stood out as it was the only supermarket which was open at that time.

Early commuters who had not taken breakfast at home or wanted to carry out some light shopping where all passing by this supermarket. It was truly the scenario where ‘the early bird catches the worm’.

It was the owner’s sacrifice of extra sleep to capture early customers, build customer loyalty, that captured my attention.

Sacrifice

We all want to achieve goals in life but are we willing to make the necessary sacrifice to achieve those goals? To learn new skills, to build businesses, to build new relationships, to climb that mountain we all have to sacrifice something.
