Abstract

What one skill or goal do you want to achieve this year that has the capacity to change your life and your loved ones lives forever. Think about this carefully. Do not make any excuses just do the work and make it happen.

There are times you will hate doing stuff but this is when digging in matters. To distinguish yourself and join the elite you need to be happy to embrace the suck each and every day.  Go deep in that mud and search for that gold.

Dig in deep in your reservoirs and go for it without restraint. Do not entertain doubts about your ability just aim for the best and have a what it takes attitude. Do not be a spectator in 2021 go and participate in the field.

1. Decide

Think and reflect on what one thing can make a huge difference in your life and loved ones lives this year. Is it changing jobs, launching a new business, learning a new skill or moving to a different country with more opportunities

Really think hard about what will move the dial in your life and your loved ones lives this year. What will shake the ground if you work diligently at it and grind hard at it. There are distinct areas and skills that can make an impact on our lives. Sales skills, negotiation skills, programming skills, business and investments skills.

You may be talented and have never thought about applying your skills in some area like music, theatre, graphic design, comedy, writing novels. Hone that innate skill and make it shine.

The harder the skill is to attain the more desirable the skill is in the market. The law of supply and demand in economics makes sense. Differentiate yourself in the market and make yourself unique. What business launched will give you the freedom and independence that you desire?

These are thoughts to ponder on as we start the year what one thing will move the dial for you this year?

2. Show up each day and execute

To make stuff happen you have to show up each day and work at it. A farmer does not expect to take a day off and forget about feeding the cows, milking the cows, cleaning their sheds, attending to the sick animals. There are daily duties that need to be accomplished just to maintain the status quo.

The show, Yukon Gold and Alaska Gold Diggers on National Geographic, always reveals the teams that succeed show up each day with the spirit to fight hard each and every waking hour. The most successful teams never let up they go hard at it each and every hour. It’s tough and laborious work but the pay off is great.

We wake up each morning and always make our beds, brush our teeth and eat our regular three meals. The same logic should be applied to our most important goals and activities. We need to wake up and attack our most important goals with the same vigor and routine.

Nothing kills our momentum, morale and our desire to achieve goals as inconsistency. We are quick to change service providers once they provide inconsistent service to us. Would you keep an internet service provider that is always off and on?

Would you patronize a corner shop that has inconsistent opening days i.e. they open one day close of for the next two days then open up again to business for two more days? This inconsistency will kill off this business fast.

The same applies to the acquisition of skills and achieving goals. We have to maintain a consistent momentum and rhythm. Without this yardstick we will fail to achieve anything of substance.

3. Have Proper Aim

There is nothing that kills our dreams and goals by aiming very low. Settling for average and mediocrity is what has brought many dreams and goals crashing down. Aim for the stars if you want to reach the sky.

One individual who always shoots for the stars is Elon Musk. He has a Mars colonization goal; electric cars mass production goal and he is on the way to achieving these great ambitions. He does not settle for nothing but the best.

This is epitomized by his personal achievements and what he has achieved so far. He is totally ruthless with himself and aims for the peak. Study billionaires like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Oprah Winfrey, Larry Ellison etc. they all excelled in their fields. They made it their key ambition and obligation to be number one in their fields.

If you set out to achieve any goal always aim to be the best in that area. Never settle for nothing but the best.

4. Always be improving- Kaizen

Your aim this year is to always be improving. As you seek to achieve your wildest dream and goals, track your performance diligently. Benchmark yourself against the best and aim to be better than them. Study the best techniques to achieve your goal.

Do the research and aim to get better each day. No overall let up in your effort. This where getting an accountability partner is good. They will not let you off the hook. They will drive you to perform better and reach higher levels of performance.

This is where joining groups related to your goal is good. Be out there seeking achievers and learning from the best. Getting mentors and coaches will accelerate your efforts towards achieving your goals. The aim is to become effective and efficient.

A study of Toyota is a study in Kaizen this company is always improving and striving to delight customers. It came from nowhere and beat General Motors and Ford to become the greatest car manufacturer in the world. We need to emulate the best to become the best.

5. Never Give Up

Sheer persistence always wins the day. When you aim to achieve any goal apply that virtue called persistence. Those who persist usually take the price at the end of the day. No matter how hard the goal may seem it’s the individuals that persist who usually make it.

Navy SEAL selection usually boils down to those who will endure and persist no matter the odds they face each and every day. You have to acquire this trait and make it a key corner stone habit. No let up when one decides to move in and conquer their dreams.

Half hearted effort will never amount to anything. Total 100% commitment to your goal will matter which means never giving up on your dream and goal

Action

What’s your key goal for the year?

What actions are you willing to take to achieve this goal?
